Twilight

Aaah, the mania that not only flooded the bookstores but also the cinemas! I wonder if the same craze emerged with Harry Potter. I wouldn't know, because the only HP books I've read are the first and third book. lol. I'm such a loser. But I plan to read the rest especially since Twilight was advertised as "The hottest books since Harry Potter". I really wish I read Harry Potter earlier. They're just not comparable. The only thing they have in common is that you can find them both in the Young Adult section... and that they're bestsellers, especially because they reached even the non-reading population.

Anyway, just because Breaking Dawn turned out to be a fan fiction, doesn't mean I should spare my blog a space for the movie. I loved the Twilight series for a time, after all (until Breaking Dawn came out. haha. But to give Stephenie Meyer a bit of credit, I admire her for flawlessly sewing up the events to give way for the perfect and much-awaited-for ending).

The movie, I think, had so much potential. I no longer hate the cast. I liked Kristen Stewart. She was the Bella I pictured. As for Robert Pattinson... he was far from the perfect Edward we all imagined but he pulled it off. Well, the truth is it's very difficult to find perfect actors for such perfect vampires like the Cullens. We can't expect the cast to be as perfect as the ones in the book but surprisingly, Alice and Carlisle were great. It's like their characters were entirely lifted from the book. Even Javi liked Alice. Alice is adorable! lol. I hope they take care of Jacob in the future movies. I'm a Jacob fan. haha. James was a good villain (what a paradox) as well.

Now, enough about the cast.

The execution was inconsistent. There were scenes that were well-made and really induced the right emotions (not that there are wrong emotions). But some scenes were just horrible! lol. They didn't have to force everything, really. But I guess that's better than deviating more than they should from the book. Some scenes were funny though. I like that. haha.

So there. The movie could have been so much better. I hope they release a director's cut version of it since they seem to have omitted so much. haha.

Do I like it or not? Well, it's Twilight. Shallow, overly romantic, cheesy. It has fallen to the mainstream, which isn't good. Nevertheless, you can't help but find a guilty pleasure in it.
